Biography

Anders Tinsbo, christened Anders Kristiansen, was born in 1938 into a working class family in Copenhagen, Denmark. His parents were both craftspeople working in a local porcelain factory. He initially trained as a stucco maker, intending to follow his parents into the craft trade.

Tinsbo pivoted, pursuing an artistic education first at the Sculpture School and then the Architecture School of the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen.

Tinsbo is most well known for his sculpture Vandkunst, now installed next to Rundetårn in the centre of Copenhagen. What this elegant, somewhat understated sculpture conceals, is a thoroughly experimental artistic practice.

Archival research has uncovered installations pushing the limits of perception. It has revealed Tinsbo’s place at the forefront of the emergent field of data art. Unifying these experiments, are Tinsbo’s own theories of form and mass. These strange, compelling writings, bring to light the conceptual weight Tinsbo’s sculpture always had – a weight that was lightened by the artist’s own wishes that his work become part of the daily lives of his viewer.
